New Cottage Food Law = New Opportunities
Michigan's cottage food law provides new opportunities for our talented residents to earn a living, explore launching a small food-based business and boost our local economy by selling homemade food products at farmers markets, roadside stands, fairs and other community events. It allows certain foods made in home kitchens – instead of expensive commercial kitchens that require a costly licensing process – to be sold as long as they are properly labeled. This law makes it easier for entrepreneurs like you to earn money. If you're thinking of selling homemade pies, candy, jams and jellies, dry mixes, nuts and nut mixes, or other items, please take a few minutes to look over this list of frequently asked questions and handy product labeling guide from the Michigan Department of Agriculture. Don't forget to add your startup business to our new "Cottage Food" section on BuyMichFirst.com!
