The Select Michigan Program encourages retailers and consumers to purchase food grown and processed in Michigan. Buying locally directly supports our farmers and agri-businesses, as well as our state's economy. In fact, if every Michigan household spent just $10 per week on Michigan-produced food, it would keep nearly $40 million each and every week working for you right here at home. Celebrate Local Food at the Select Michigan Farmers Markets this Summer! We are celebrating Michigan farmers and local food again this year with special "Select Michigan Day" farmers markets on the Capitol lawn and at Eastern Market in Detroit. Thursday, July 23, 2009 on the Capitol lawn in Lansing Each market will take place from from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., rain or shine! We're expecting 40-50 vendors from all across the state for the Capitol markets and up to 80 at the Eastern Market event, all selling Michigan-grown and produced food and agricultural products. |
